Leçon 7

Conjugaison of -ir verbs

Examples include voir, venir, sentir & tenir.

Je-----vois
Tu-----vois
Il/Elle-----voit
Nous-----voyons
Vous-----voyez
Ils/Elles-----voient

Conjugaison of être

être=to be

It is used in certain words in the past tense.

Je-----suis
Tu-----es
Il/Elle-----est
Nous-----sommes
Vous-----êtes
Ils/Elles-----sont

Conjugaison of aller

aller=to go

Although aller ends with -er, it doesn't have the same conjugaison as common -er verbs.

Je-----vais
Tu-----vais
Il/Elle-----va
Nous-----allons
Vous-----allez
Ils/Elles-----vont

Conjugaison of avoir

avoir=to have

Like être, avoir is used in most words in the past tense.

J'-----ai
Tu-----as
Il/Elle-----a
Nous-----avons
Vous-----avez
Ils/Elles-----ont

Note that the 'e' in je is omitted and replaced with an apostrophe. This is because the 'e' in je & 'a' in ai are vowels. (French & English share the same vowels) This change is necessary because of the pronunciation.

Je ai (gramatically wrong) -----[zher-ay] ('r' is silent)

Je ai won't sound right. Therefore, it's changed to j'ai, which is pronounced as zhay/simply the alphabet 'j' in English. Notice that this change is not seen in Tu as and Elle a because the pronounciation of the words are not similar.
